Boulder Coworking- The Candy Shop

Boulder has a coworking space!

Boulder Candy Shop

I saw Brandy LeMae of Vast Architecture a few months ago and asked me if I had heard about her new office space.  “We just bought the old porn building… it is our new office building.”

Joking she was not, Brandy and her husband purchased the old video rental establishment and redid the whole building, playfully naming their new space the “Candy Shop.”

What is coworking?

Coworking is an emerging trend for a new pattern for working. Typically work-at-home professionals or independent contractors or people who travel frequently end up working in relative isolation. Coworking is the social gathering of a group of people, who are still working independently, but who share values and who are interested in the synergy that can happen from working with talented people in the same space.

I’ve always maintained that Boulder was a model of ‘coworking evolved’ where the 15 coffeeshops and 6 executive suites full of mobile workers within walking distance of downtown, I thought Boulder was what coworking looks like if a community adopts it.

The candyshop doesn’t have the central table that almost all coworking shops I have seen have, opting to rent desks.

At this time, just over two months after opening, all of their desks are filled.

The best designed coworking space I have been to.

As an added bonus, some random men show up randomly looking for…. their friend… who… umm…. <leaves>.

Well done to the whole team!

I don't always promote posts I write here, the only way to keep up on the banter is to to subscribe to my super low tech rss feed. I also do a quarterly newsletter, that is a highly non personal and always funny update on projects I am working on and trends I see in the web.

Very exciting! Are you aware of any other more formal (ie. not coffee shops, but actual spaces) in Boulder?

Yes, West End Suites is good, but overpriced. There are several offices suites downtown for $600-999/m.

Tell me about the isolation of working alone! It stings, sometimes. I would be open to consider coworking, but one deal breaker for me would be if there were people playing music or the radio. I don't mind some chatter, but just can't stand anyone (with different musical taste) trying to DJ for me while I am working. Is sharing music part of the coworking culture?

Get some headphones! Can be part of it, usually is some form of Pandora.
